What Makes This Recipe Great

It is officially burger season, and I have a recipe that you don’t want to miss! It’s hard to believe that something as simple as a burger can contain gluten, but in order to bind them into patties, there are a lot of filler ingredients you have to watch out for sometimes! Of course you can eat a hamburger that’s simply made with meat, salt, and pepper…but I highly recommend checking out this tasty combo of ingredients!

Enter, the BEST gluten free burger recipe! Made with simple swaps and containing no gluten, these are the burgers I’ll be grilling all summer long. The best part? No one will taste the difference so you can feed the whole family with this delicious recipe! These burgers are moist, packed with flavor, and also make the best leftovers.

Ingredient Notes

Ground Beef: I prefer grass-fed ground beef from Butcher Box, but get your favorite!

Gluten-Free Crackers: I used crushed up Simple Mills sea salt crackers, but you can also sub crushed up Siete Foods tortilla chips. The crackers can be found in most grocery stores in the gluten free section!

Egg: This helps bind the patties together. If you have an egg allergy you can use a substitute like a chia egg (1 tbsp chia seeds + 2.5 Tbsp water).

Coconut Aminos: This is a gluten-free replacement for soy sauce and adds a ton of flavor to the gluten free burger patties.

Spices: Sea salt, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper

Recipe Step by Step

  1. Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl and mix using your hands. Mix until just combined without over-working the meat.
  2. Form the meat into six 1/3 lb patties about 1-1 1/2 inches thick. Use your thumb to make an indent in the center of each one. This will prevent them from puffing up on the grill!
  3. Place the patties on a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate for 30 + minutes.
  4. Heat your grill to medium heat. Cook the burgers for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the desired internal temperature has been reached. Add cheese (if desired) during the last minute of cooking time.
  5. Top with your favorite toppings and serve on a gluten free bun. Enjoy!

Mary’s Tips & Tricks

How to Make Air Fryer Burgers: To make these burgers in the air fryer, I suggest forming the meat into 8 smaller patties (instead of 6 bigger ones). Preheat your air fryer to 370. Cook in batches so the patties are not overlapping. Cook the patties for 6 minutes, then flip and cook for an additional 5 minutes. If topping with cheese, add it and cook for 1 additional minute.

Storage: Store leftover cooked patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in the microwave or on a skillet over the stove and serve with a gluten free bun and toppings!

Recipe FAQs

Can I freeze leftover patties for later use?

Yes! I recommend taking the uncooked beef, forming your patties, and freezing the patties in a freezer-safe, airtight container with layers separated by parchment paper for easy patty removal. Defrost overnight in the fridge and grill as directed. You can also grill them directly from frozen, but obviously it will take a few more minutes on each side!

What are some good gluten free side options?

What are the best gluten free toppings?

It’s always a good idea to check in ingredient labels, but some popular gluten free burger toppings are mayo, yellow mustard, ketchup, cheese, tomato, lettuce, onions (grilled or raw), and pickles.
