Ingredient Notes

ingredients for bone broth hot chocolate

Chicken Bone Broth: I love Kettle & Fire Brand. You can use code MARY for 20% off! Beef bone broth will also work for this hot cocoa recipe. Make sure to look for a good, nutrient dense bone broth.

Milk: You can use any type of milk for this hot chocolate recipe. I like Fairlife 2% milk for the extra protein, but whole milk, oatmilk, unsweetened almond milk, coconut cream, or coconut milk will also work!

Raw Cacao Powder: This cocoa powder in its raw form. It is an excellent source of antioxidants and gives this bone broth hot cocoa a super rich chocolate flavor. Make sure to look for unsweetened cocoa powder.

Maple Syrup: Make sure to look for 100% pure maple syrup. You can also use honey if you prefer.

Collagen: This is optional but I like to add a scoop of collagen for an extra boost of protein. I like the Thrive Market powdered collagen.

Whipped cream: This is optional.

Marshmallows: Also optional. My Dandies makes great gluten & dairy free mini marshmallows!

Recipe FAQs

Can you put bone broth in coffee?

Absolutely! In fact, if you want to turn this into a mocha latte, simply add 1-2 shots of espresso to your bone broth hot cocoa!

What are the health benefits of bone broth?

Bone broth is rich in collagen and is known to promote a healthy gut microbiome, improve joint pain, and support skin health. It also contains healthy minerals.

Does boiling bone broth destroy the nutrients?

This is a good question. I usually just heat the hot chocolate ingredients over medium for a few minutes and serve it before it reaches its boiling point to avoid this.

Wanted to love this but it’s chocolate bone broth. It’s nothing like hot cocoa. Love your recipes but this one is a miss

  10. Jamie says:

Love this recipe! This was my first time trying bone broth and I’m hooked! I love hot cocoa and this is the perfect healthier option. I’ve made this twice, once I was sidetracked and let it boil on accident and it didn’t become gritty on me. However, that was on me. 100% will continue making this and just take it off of heat much sooner.

    1. Mary says:

Thanks Jamie! So glad you love it!
