Why You'll Love This Recipe

With three kids, a busy schedule, and endless activities, I don't have time to be sick! These homemade lemon ginger turmeric shots have become one of my favorite ways to help my body stay strong through cold and flu season. Compared to pricey store-bought versions, they're affordable, fresh, and easy to make right in your own kitchen.

I love how versatile they are. You can prep a batch for the week, adjust the sweetness with pineapple or a drizzle of honey, and even freeze them for later. Each shot delivers a concentrated burst of nutrients and flavor that's tangy from lemon, spicy from ginger and cayenne, and balanced by the natural sweetness of pineapple.

They also make a quick gut health drink you can enjoy as part of your morning wellness routine. For another cozy immune-supporting drink, try my bone broth hot cocoa.

Ingredients You'll Need

Fresh ingredients for lemon ginger turmeric shots including lemon, ginger, turmeric root, pineapple, cayenne, and black pepper
  • Lemon juice: Freshly squeezed for a big boost of vitamin C and digestive support.
  • Fresh turmeric root: Curcumin supports joint comfort and overall wellness. Turmeric powder can be used if fresh isn't available.
  • Raw ginger root (fresh): Zesty and full of antioxidants, ginger helps with digestion, circulation, and balance.
  • Pineapple chunks: Adds natural sweetness while packing vitamin C and digestive enzymes. You can swap with orange juice for a citrus variation.
  • Black pepper: Essential for helping your body absorb turmeric's compounds.
  • Cayenne pepper: Adds gentle heat and supports circulation.
  • Coconut oil: Provides healthy fats and helps your body absorb turmeric.
  • Water: Balances the blend and ensures smooth consistency.

For added sweetness, try a drizzle of honey or maple syrup.

Tumeric Stain Warning!

⚠️ Turmeric will stain everything it touches - your hands, cutting board, blender, and straining cloth. Wear gloves, use an old nut milk bag, and rinse everything immediately after use.

How to Make Lemon Ginger Turmeric Shots

Four-step process showing how to make lemon ginger turmeric shots in a blender and straining the juice.

Step 1: Add all ingredients into a high-speed blender.

Step 2: Blend on high for about 1 minute until smooth.

Step 3: Pour the mixture into a bowl or large mason jar through a fine mesh strainer, nut milk bag, or sieve.

Step 4: Press or squeeze to extract all the juice, leaving the pulp behind. Divide into 2-ounce servings and enjoy immediately for the freshest flavor.

Recipe Tips

  • Juicer method: If you have a juicer, you can skip straining – just run everything through the juicer and portion out your golden shots!
  • Less Spicy: Omit the cayenne pepper!
  • Blender Method: The blender method is simple. Just blend everything, strain, and pour into shot-sized servings.
  • Sensitive stomach: You can take these wellness shots on an empty stomach, but if you have a sensitive stomach, I recommend eating a little something with them!
  • Removing turmeric stains: You can scrub skin or appliances with a mixture of baking soda and lemon juice, or use oil-based cleaners like coconut oil!
  • Orange juice version: Feel free to use fresh oranges instead of pineapple!
  • Warm version: add a shot cube to hot water for a cozy morning drink

Storage and Meal Prep Tips

Fresh is always best, but your lemon ginger turmeric shots can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 7-10 days.

For longer storage, pour into a silicone ice cube tray, freeze, and thaw overnight for a ready-to-drink shot in the morning. These shots can be stored in the freezer for up to 2-3 months. This is the easiest way to create make-ahead turmeric ginger shots for your wellness routine.

Recipe FAQs

How often should you take wellness shots?

It depends on your routine and needs. Some people enjoy a daily shot, while others take them a few times a week during cold and flu season. Always listen to your body and consult your healthcare provider for personal recommendations.

How long do turmeric shots last in the fridge?

They last up to 48 hours when sealed in the refrigerator. For longer storage, freeze in cubes and defrost overnight for a single serving.

Can I use turmeric powder instead of fresh root?

Yes, turmeric powder can be substituted if fresh turmeric isn't available. Use sparingly and adjust to taste.

What time of day is best for wellness shots?

Morning is ideal for a natural energy booster, but they can be enjoyed any time you want a quick pick-me-up. The time of day you drink yours is totally up to you.

Do I need to peel the ginger and turmeric?

No, you don’t need to peel the ginger and turmeric!

Do turmeric supplements work the same way?

No, supplements provide a high concentration of curcumin, but have low bioavailability or absorption. Fresh juice shots offer better rapid absorption of raw ingredients, just in smaller amounts.

Cost Comparison

Store-bought wellness shots (like Suja or Daily Harvest) run $3-5 per shot. This recipe makes 6 shots for around $4-5 total - that’s less than $1 per shot!

Equipment

  • mesh sieve or Juv press
  • Juicer (optional but can use this instead of a blender and mesh sieve)

Ingredients

  • Juice from 4 lemons
  • 4 oz fresh turmeric, about ½ cup
  • 6 inch knob fresh ginger
  • ½ cup pineapple chunks
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp coconut oil, (to help with turmeric absorption)
  • ½ cup water, + more if needed

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients into a high speed blender. Blend on high for 1 minute.
  • Pour the contents into a bowl or a large mason jar through a fine mesh strainer or a fine mesh sieve. Alternatively, you can use a nut milk bag or a Juv Press if you have one.
  • Push down to get all of the juice out and leave the pulp behind.
  • Divide the juice into 2 oz servings and enjoy! Best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 48. hours.

Notes

  • If you have a juicer, simply combine all of the ingredients into the juicer and divide the juice into 6 shots! No blender or sieve is needed.
  • The pineapple juice gives a nice, palatable sweetness to the shot. If you need additional sweetness, use more pineapple juice or a bit of raw honey.
  • This recipe makes 6 wellness shots. They are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours.
  • For a longer shelf life, use a larger silicone ice cube tray to freeze a larger batch. Defrost one of the frozen cubes overnight in the refrigerator to enjoy as a juice shot in the morning.

If using a juicer instead of blender, do lemons go in whole?

    1. Mary says:

      yes 🙂

  3. Linda H says:

When you select the 3x it increases all ingredients except the lemon juice. Is this correct?

    1. Mary says:

No it should be 3 x everything 🙂

  4. Pam says:

Can you use powdered turmeric and ginger instead of fresh?

    1. Mary says:

Unfortunately I have not tried it with powdered and wouldn’t know the amounts. They also don’t provide the same nutrient dense benefits that turmeric and ginger root do. I am sorry!

I love this idea as I sometimes buy these at Aldi! Looking at the photos, it appears the ginger and turmeric are not peeled. Do you not need to peel them?! Thanks for all your great recipes; I’m a huge fan, Mary!

    1. Mary says:

Hi! No need to peel them before you blend! It all gets strained out 🙂
