This turkey sweet potato hash is one of my favorite ways to turn simple ingredients into a filling meal. Made with ground turkey, sweet potatoes, spinach, and herbs. Everything cooks in just one skillet, and the sweet potatoes become perfectly tender right on the stovetop. It’s an easy option for an egg-free breakfast, meal prep, or those nights when you need dinner on the table fast!

Why You’ll Love This Turkey Sweet Potato Hash Recipe
This sweet potato breakfast hash combines savory turkey, tender sweet potatoes, and spinach for a balanced meal with lots of flavor in every bite. The savory herbs complement the natural sweetness of the potatoes, while the spinach adds an easy boost of vegetables without overpowering the dish.
This recipe is also easy to customize based on what you have on hand. Swap the protein, add extra veggies, or top it with an egg to make it your own. Ingredients You’ll Need

- Olive oil: Used for browning the turkey and helping the vegetables caramelize as they cook.
- Ground turkey: A lean source of protein that keeps the hash hearty without feeling heavy. Feel free to use ground chicken or ground beef instead of turkey!
- Salt & pepper: Seasons both the turkey and vegetables so every bite is flavorful.
- Garlic powder: Adds savory flavor directly to the turkey as it cooks.
- Onion powder: Builds flavor alongside the garlic powder and herbs.
- Thyme: Adds an earthy, cozy flavor that pairs especially well with sweet potatoes.
- Oregano: Brings a subtle savory note that balances the natural sweetness of the potatoes.
- Sweet potatoes: The star ingredient that adds texture, color, and natural sweetness. For another easy way to cook sweet potatoes, try my foolproof roasted sweet potatoes recipe!
- Onion: Softens as it cooks and adds another layer of savory flavor.
- Minced garlic: Fresh garlic gives the hash a deeper flavor than dried seasonings alone.
- Chicken broth: This is the little trick that helps the sweet potatoes cook quickly without drying out.
- Raw baby spinach: Wilts quickly into the skillet for an easy vegetable boost.
Recipe Variations
- Swap the ground turkey for ground chicken or lean ground beef!
- If I’m serving this for breakfast, I almost always add a fried egg on top, it's delicious!
- Add diced bell peppers with the onions for more color and texture.
- Serve this hash with a batch of deviled eggs for a protein-rich brunch spread.
How to Make Turkey Sweet Potato Hash

Step 1: Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add the turkey and use a wooden spoon to break it apart while it cooks for 5-7 minutes. Season with the salt, onion powder, garlic powder, thyme and oregano. Once cooked through, remove using a slotted spoon and set aside.

Step 2: To the same pan, add the remaining 1 tbsp olive oil. Add the potatoes, onions and garlic and saute for 4-5 minutes until beginning to brown and soften. Pour in the chicken broth and cover. Let the potatoes steam for 3-4 minutes until the broth is almost gone.

Step 3: Add the cooked turkey back into the pan and stir. Add the spinach and stir until wilted. Season with salt and pepper as needed and enjoy!
Expert Tips
- Try to keep the sweet potato cubes about the same size. It helps everything cook evenly and keeps you from ending up with some pieces that are still firm while others are falling apart.
- Let the potatoes sit undisturbed for a minute or two while sautéing to let them brown.
- If the broth evaporates before the potatoes are tender, add another splash and cover for an extra minute or two.
- The best part about this recipe is that you can use the same skillet the entire time! The browned bits left behind from the turkey add flavor to the vegetables.
- Add the spinach at the very end so it stays bright and tender instead of overcooking.

Storage & Make-Ahead Tips
- This turkey hash with sweet potatoes is a great option to prepare in advance for busy mornings, lunches, or quick dinners.
- Store leftover ground turkey and sweet potato hash in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
- To reheat, warm it in a skillet over medium heat with a small splash of broth or water. You can also microwave individual portions until heated through.
