Why You'll Love This Mediterranean Feta Dip

I love Mediterranean food – it's full of fresh ingredients and the best flavors. Whether it be a Mediterranean frittata, an orzo salad with Mediterranean dressing, or a Greek cucumber salad I’m all in! This dip is an easy appetizer that is packed with fresh Mediterranean flavor and the perfect mix of creamy, tangy, and crunchy textures. The whipped feta base (made extra luscious with Greek yogurt) balances beautifully with the garlicky hummus and cool tzatziki.

Topped with diced tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, and pepperoncinis, every bite is a burst of bright, savory goodness. It's a great addition to any charcuterie board, perfect for parties, or to keep in the fridge for a quick snack. Plus, it’s naturally gluten-free and can be easily customized with dairy-free alternatives.

Ingredient Notes

Here are a few notes on the key ingredients for this Mediterranean dip! Jump to the recipe card for the full recipe and exact measurements.

  • Feta cheese: Feta adds a rich, salty, and tangy flavor that pairs perfectly with the fresh Mediterranean toppings – use dairy-free feta if needed!
  • Plain non-fat Greek yogurt: Helps create a creamy dip that balances out the saltiness of the feta. Swap with sour cream, cream cheese, or a dairy-free Greek-style yogurt if preferred.
  • Extra virgin olive oil: Gives the dip a smooth, velvety texture and a hint of rich, peppery flavor.
  • Hummus: Adds creaminess and a nutty, garlicky depth. Use your favorite store-bought hummus or make a homemade version – I like the Cava brand.
  • Tzatziki sauce: Brings a refreshing, garlicky, and herby coolness that ties everything together. Use a dairy-free tzatziki if needed. Again, I like the Cava brand.
  • Tomatoes: Add juicy sweetness and a fresh burst of flavor that compliments the creamy base. You can use cherry tomatoes, roma tomatoes, or grape tomatoes – just make sure they're fresh!
  • Cucumbers: Provide a crisp, refreshing crunch that balances out the richness of the dip.
  • Chopped kalamata olives: Bring a briny, bold flavor that adds that classic Mediterranean touch.
  • Diced pepperoncinis: Add a tangy, slightly spicy kick that gives the dip a little extra zing.
  • Crumbled feta (for topping): I recommend using a block of feta and crumbling it yourself. However, if you want to buy pre-crumbled feta you can.
  • Chopped mint and parsley (for garnish): Fresh herbs bring brightness and color to the final dish.

Expert Tips

  • Even though this Mediterranean feta dip is naturally gluten-free, it's always important to double-check ingredient labels to avoid hidden sources of gluten.
  • If you don't have a food processor you can use a stand mixer instead. Just make sure you mix until it's super smooth.
  • Let the feta come to room temperature before blending for the smoothest consistency.
  • Want more flavor? Add a pinch of black pepper, sea salt, garlic powder, or a squeeze of lemon juice to help balance all of the flavors.
  • For a spicy kick, sprinkle on some red pepper flakes before serving.
  • Customize it! Try adding roasted red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, green onions, or even a drizzle of honey for a sweet/savory contrast.

Serving Tips

This 7-layer Greek feta dip is super versatile! Here are a few ways to serve it.

  • On a charcuterie board with gluten-free pita chips or pita bread.
  • Serve this as a veggie dip with fresh vegetables like carrots, celery, and bell peppers.
  • Slather it on sandwiches, wraps, or toast for a Mediterranean twist.
  • As a side dish to a Greek chicken bowl, Greek salmon, or air fryer shrimp.

Storage Tips

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Prepare the whipped feta base up to 2 days in advance and store it separately. Assemble the rest before serving.

I don't recommend freezing this dip. The fresh ingredients will become watery when thawed.

Recipe FAQs

Is there something I can use instead of hummus?

If you're not a hummus fan, try baba ganoush or a thick white bean dip for a similar texture.

Should I use block feta or crumbled feta?

I highly recommend using block feta over pre-crumbled feta for the best texture and flavor. Block feta is creamier and blends much smoother, so if you want an ultra-creamy, luscious dip, go for the block!

Is this dip high in protein?

Yes! This dip is naturally high in protein thanks to the Greek yogurt, feta cheese, and hummus. If you’re looking for a meat-free way to add more protein to your diet, this dip is the perfect choice!
