What Makes This Recipe Great

You know how much I love an air fryer recipe (see this Air Fryer Filet Mignon, these Quick & Easy Eggs, and this easy recipe for Frozen Salmon), and today I’m introducing you to my newest favorite, Air Fryer Italian Sausage

I like this Italian sausage recipe because it is a super versatile protein that can accompany so many dishes, but pan-frying can be messy and time-consuming. This air fryer method, however, means easy peasy cleanup, quick cooking time, and requires no additional cookware or risk of splattering. The perfect combination for an easy meal on busy weeknights! This is my favorite method for cooking sausages.

So grab your favorite spicy Italian sausage or sweet Italian sausage, and let’s get air frying!

Recipe Highlights

  • Quick, easy dinner
  • Gluten-free and dairy free
  • Low carb & keto
  • Easy to serve in a variety of recipes
  • A good source of protein for dinner

Ingredients Needed For This Air Fryer Sausage Recipe

  • Uncooked Italian sausages: Use any Italian sausage links that you prefer. Keep in mind that the sausages I used are 1.5 inches thick, so if you have thinner sausage, you’ll need to reduce the cooking time. Feel free to use pork sausage, chicken sausage, or turkey sausage varieties of mild Italian sausage, sweet, or hot Italian sausage. Make sure to look for gluten free on the label if you have Celiac.
  • Cooking oil spray – I like to use avocado oil spray.

How To Make Italian Sausages In The Air Fryer

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 360 degrees F for 3 minutes.
  2. Spray the bottom of your air fryer basket with avocado oil or olive oil cooking spray.
  3. Add the uncooked sausages in a single layer and air-fry for 12-13 minutes, flipping halfway through. The internal temperature of the sausages should be 160F minimum. Use an instant-read thermometer if needed. Adjust the cook time depending on the thickness of the sausage.
  4. Slice and enjoy!

Expert Tips

  • The sausages that I used were approximately 1.5 inches thick. If you have thinner sausages, reduce the cooking time.
  • For extra crispy air fryer Italian sausages, cook at 400 for 10 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • To slice, stabilize the sausage with a fork and use a sharp knife to slice to the desired thickness.
  • This recipe will work for many different kinds of sausages, so keep that in mind if you’re cooking bratwurst, breakfast sausages, patties, and more. Adjust the cooking times depending on the size of the sausages.

How to Serve Italian Sausage

These sausages are so versatile and easy to whip up when you’re in need of a quick and easy protein-packed lunch or dinner. I recommend cleaning out your produce drawer and making what you have on hand or using one of the ideas below.

  • Pasta: Serve in marinara sauce or pesto and your favorite pasta shape.
  • Sandwiches: Serve in gluten-free hot dog buns or a hoagie roll topped with bell peppers and onions.
  • Entree: Alongside roasted veggies like broccoli or cauliflower and potatoes.
  • Keto: These air fryer sausages are typically low-carb, so serve with keto sides like cauliflower mash and roasted veggies.
  • Season: Feel free to season your sausages to the dish you’re serving them in. Salt, black pepper, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning, and more!

Storage Tips

Store leftover sausage in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat in the air fryer and serve!

To freeze cooked sausages, let them cool completely, then transfer them to a freezer-safe container or bag and freeze them for up to 2-3 months. No need to thaw them in the fridge as you can reheat them straight from frozen in the air fryer and serve them however you like!
