While back to school may look a little different for many of us this year, I still think it’s important to have healthy and fun lunch ideas for our kiddos! My boys will be attending preschool and daycare 3 days a week, while my daughter will be home for 2nd grade distance learning with me. I’ve come up with three different fun pinwheel wrap ideas to help make lunchtime planning easier for you and your families!
I am excited to be partnering with Ello Products to showcase their new Sammie Kids Plastic Lunch Container. It’s the perfect side for an entree and side(s), and only has 2 parts! Here are some of the features that I love:
- Bento-style sandwich + side container with colorful sleeve and color-match locking lid.
- Overmolded soft base adds protection and a pop of color
- Color match lid makes packing lunch easy – no question which lid belongs where!
- Only 2 parts and they are all dishwasher safe.
- All parts are BPA free
- The pinwheels fit perfectly in the sandwich compartment!
Okay, let’s get started with how to make these 3 yummy back to school lunch box pinwheel recipes! They’re all super simple and you can use regular flour tortillas, gluten free tortillas, or grain free tortillas depending on your childs’ dietary needs.
Banana Peanut Butter Honey Pinwheel:
2 tbsp peanut butter or nut butter of choice
1 tsp honey for drizzle
Place the tortilla on a flat surface. Spread the nut butter to completely cover the tortilla. Place the banana at the top of the tortilla, drizzle some honey all over the surface, then roll the banana up. Cut it into six 2-inch pieces. Enjoy!
The sides shown here are a grassfed beef stick and broccoli.
1 burrito-sized tortilla
2 tbsp marinara sauce or pizza sauce
2 tbsp shredded mozzarella cheese
6 pepperoni (I used turkey pepperoni)
Lay the tortilla on a flat surface. Spread the sauce evenly on top of the tortilla using the back of a spoon. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese on top. Place the pepperonis in a horizontal line in the middle of the tortilla. Roll it up, then slice into six 2-inch pinwheels.
Ham (or Turkey), Pickle, and Cream Cheese Pinwheels
2 tbsp cream cheese (use Kite Hill for dairy free)
2 pieces of ham or turkey
1 dill pickle slice, cut in half long ways to create two skinny pieces
Lay the tortilla on a flat surface. Spread the cream cheese out evenly to cover the entire surface. Place the ham or turkey slices across the middle, overlapping horizontally. Place the pickle slices at the top of the tortilla. Roll it down until the entire thing is rolled up. Cut into six 2-inch pieces.
