Spicy Shrimp Over Creamy Spinach Cauliflower Rice
This Whole30 Spicy Shrimp over Creamy Spinach Cauliflower Rice is a quick and simple meal that comes together in 10 minutes! It is packed with flavor, Whole30 friendly, paleo, gluten free and dairy free.
This Whole30 Spicy Shrimp over Creamy Spinach Cauliflower Rice one of my go-to easy meals using frozen shrimp and cauliflower rice from my freezer! Perfect for those days when I don’t really have a dinner plan and need something quick and easy. I came up with it a while ago, and I’m finally getting it up on the blog!
What Ingredients do I need to make this Whole30 Spicy Shrimp over Creamy Spinach Caulirice?
- 1 lb frozen or fresh peeled/deveined shrimp. I like to get this at Costco! Trader Joe’s also has great frozen shrimp.
- Kite Hill almond milk cream cheese
- Spinach
- Frozen cauliflower rice – I think this has better texture than fresh. I like to get a 5 lb bag of frozen cauliflower rice at Costco.
- Ghee – My favorite ghee to use is Fourth and Heart or Thrive Market brand. You can find both on Thrive Market.
Is Kite Hill cream cheese Whole30 compliant?
I use Kite Hill almond milk cream cheese to give this dish the creaminess factor; however, it is optional. I personally allow nut cheeses when I am doing a Whole30 (in moderation), and I DEFINITELY allow it during my food freedom. I think I eat this stuff more than anything else! It’s amazing. And you can find it in most grocery stores now in the cream cheese section!
Here is Melissa Hartwig’s take on nut cheeses during the Whole30:
“Nut cheeses and dips ARE compliant on the program, with a strong caveat that these should be used with caution, especially if you know you rely on cheese as a comfort or stress-relieving food, OR if cheese is a trigger for other food cravings (like wine or crackers). As with Larabars or almond butter, Whole30 HQ and our Coaches all recommend that program participants use with caution, and think critically about whether including these foods in their Whole30 is a healthy choice, given their contexts and goals.”
I believe everyone has to do what feels best for them! To me, I don’t consider Kite Hill do be SWYPO – it makes life easier for me and makes it easy to go dairy free without sacrificing taste or flavor! I also don’t feel deprived when I eat meals that have a bit of creaminess. To me, it’s not different than using a cashew-based cream sauce!
Can you omit the Cream Cheese or use regular cream cheese?
Yes, definitely! If you omit it, this meal will still be delicious. You can also sub regular cream cheese if you tolerate dairy.

I was amazed at how quickly this recipe came together! Enough spice for the hubby but no so spicy that I couldn’t eat it. I used regular cream cheese because it was what I had on hand. Thanks for the great recipes Mary!!
Thank you Jennifer! Glad you enjoyed it!
Do you have the Macros nutrition on this?
I don’t currently include that info on here – but hoping to start soon!
Do you cook the frozen cauliflower rice in the microwave according to instructions before putting in pan? and are there alternatives to the cream cheese if going for a low fat option? such as greek yogurt or milk?
Hi Caroline – no, you just add the frozen cauliflower rice to the pan. I prefer to use frozen because it has a better texture than fresh. I haven’t tested this with anything except regular cream cheese and almond milk cream cheese. I bet greek yogurt could work. Milk would probably make it too watery.
How many calories per serving is this recipe?
I do not have nutritional info tracking capabilities on my blog as of yet! I hope to start doing it this summer 🙂
This is amazing! My husband and in-laws loves it, def going to make this again! Thank you!!
Hi Jessica! Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it!
I wasn’t able to find the almond milk cream cheese, does regular chive cream cheese work?
Yup! As long as you tolerate dairy that’s fine!
Wow! What a find! My teenager just admitted to me that she wasn’t looking forward to dinner when I told her what I was making. She LOVED this! So easy and nutritious. I added a teaspoon or more of fresh lemon juice. Didn’t have fresh spinach so chopped up a block of frozen. Yum, yum, yum! Well done, Mary!
Thank you Beck!
So delicious! I followed Amy’s recommendations above and added 1.5 cups cooked white rice to 2 bags of cauliflower rice. I added 2oz of regular cream cheese since that’s what I have on hand. I also cooked the shrimp in slap yo mama seasoning. Omg it was so so good. I’m going to cook the shrimp as the recipe calls for next time. Y’all my 5 year old ate the cauliflower rice without blinking! Spinach and all. For sure keeping this recipe.
So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks Kristi!
This was amazingly delicious! My husband loved it, he was a little wary about the cauliflower rice but it won him over. This is definitely going to be a weekly meal for us! Thank you.
So glad to hear that! thanks!
Do you have a recommendation for the almond cream cheese for nut allergy? and whole30 compliant?
You could add in a little coconut milk or cream!
I loved this! I didn’t have the vegan cream cheese on hand and I didn’t feel like making it, so I mixed some plain unsweetened cashew yogurt (Forager brand) with onion powder, salt and chives – it turned out awesome and I assume I got a very similar result. I used more than a Tbsp of my mixture just to use up what I made. 10/10 would recommend what I did as a quick alternative and time saver! Thanks for the recipe!
Hi Al – Thanks! glad you enjoyed it and found a good substitute!
I made this a couple nights ago and it was AWESOME! I’m on Whole 30 right now and will be utilizing this through the end AND putting it into my rotation after!! Thank you!!!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it JJ!
Very good and easy recipe. I love all of your recipes and have had great success on all that I have tried. Definitely my go to site for new ideas.
Thank you, Mary Pat! I’m so happy that you’ve been enjoying my recipes!
Our family enjoyed this recipe so much. I may have missed it but what is the nutrition information on this recipe. Especially the net carbs. Thank you!
Hi Deann, Unfortunately I don’t have nutrition info tracking on my site (yet), but hope to soon. Thanks!
This recipe was super easy to follow and packs in so much flavor! We used more than 1 tbsp of the kite hill foods almond “cream cheese” because it was so delicious! Thank you for sharing this tasty recipe 🙂
Hi Adelyn, I am so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the kind words!
Absolutely fabulous! Tried this for the veggie factor. My family is not crazy about cauliflower, but the riced version is great. Used fresh riced cauliflower from Fresh Thyme…Trader Joes has it as well. Personally, less water content with fresh. I was a little light on cauliflower and, not worried about the carbs, I added a package of Uncle Ben’s 90 sec. Jasmine rice to the last few minutes of cauliflower/spinach cooking time. My son requested a sprinkle of Slap Your Momma Cajun seasoning to the flip side of the shrimp. OMG is was devoured in seconds. This recipe will be added to our regular rotation. Fast, easy, flexible and satisfying! Thanks for a great recipe.
So good and EASY! I wish the kite hill cream cheese was in normal grocery stores 😣
It’s sold in Giant, Safeway, Target, and lots of other stores near me! They have a store locator on their site!
Absolutely amazing! Making the cut on our menus for sure.
Thanks, Curt! So glad to hear that!
I’m currently going to make this! How many servings?
It will feed 2-3 people!
This was delicious and so easy to prepare! Thank you for the wonderful recipe.
I am SO happy you loved it!
Can I use regular cream cheese?
Yes!
My whole whole family (including my 3 somewhat picky kids) enjoyed this. I did omit the red pepper flakes, and it was still delicious. Next time I will have to triple the recipe, as I doubled it tonight and it was gone so quickly. Great for a quick, healthy meal with lots of flavor!
Yay! So glad you guys loved it! Thanks Sarah <3
